In Print
A year ago, I said I wanted to make a book of my recent work, and now Laura Naples: Volume I is here.
This dream actually goes faaaaar back to 1988, when I was 9 and created my first life plan (what would today be known as a manifestation list).
After majoring in dance and art and starting a dance studio in my 20s, making art and owning a gallery in my 30s, then franchising the dance studio and gallery (an enterprising thought), I would get around to writing a book in my 40s.
So here it is, right on time.
It reads like a magazine, but in book size, for comfortable holding. Its tactile nature was important to me, from the dimensions to the paper quality. My love of printed matter runs deep, and I wanted to convey that notion to the reader.
Inside are stories behind recent exhibitions, experiences that informed the work, an interview with a collector (who is a writer,) and musings on living with art.
In a nod to my favorite periodicals, there is also a section at the end with 10 of my favorite things.
Laura Naples: Volume I is available in my studio shop and through Uprise Art.
